Spring geese

Flanders Moss NNR

You might notice the increase in numbers of geese around at the moment. Over the last week or two the flocks have increased in size and number and there are a number feeding in the fields around Flanders. These are pink-footed geese that have mostly spent the winter further south but are now gradually moving north, feeding up as they go before heading off across the water to Iceland and Greenland to breed. This swell of goose noise and activity is one of the late winter / early spring signs that helps you through the fag end of winter and sets you up for the joys of spring. Not long to go now.
