Amanita muscaria – Fly agaric

Peggy is a photographer and botanical illustrator amongst other things, and splits her time between California and Scotland so she knows a botanically rich place when she sees one. More info and pictures here. Here are her photos of lichens and fungi.

Whenever I have the privilege of being in Scotland in late summer, I try to get out to Flanders Moss to see what fungi I might find there. One year the fly agaric were out in full force along with the common Earthball which I had never seen before, a real treat! On that day I was there with Robert Trevis-Smith a photographer who created “A macro guide to Flanders Moss” in 2013 which you can see here:
