Stepping out at Blawhorn – the search for more paths

Blawhorn Moss NNR

Last year SNH working with Beechbrae Wood (more info here) and GreenPower International (more info here) who own the close by Drumduff windfarm, secured some money (from LEADER) to get some path experts to assess the path network around these 3 sites on the north edge of Blackridge village. The aim was to get a plan for a path network that gave local people and visitors better otpions for walking in the area. A large and very detailed report was produced but below is the summary with some of the proposed routes.

The next steps will be to work with the local community to find some money to create the actual paths on the ground. In some ways this is excellent timing because during lockdown many local people have been walking up to and around Blawhorn Moss, discovering this attractive area on their doorstep. It would be really good to tap into this enthusiasm with a range of good paths for people to use. We will keep you posted on progress but in the meantime have a look at the report.
